PLMS News - Middle School Survey - PCFC Sports Fair - PTSA News

On behalf of the entire staff at PLMS I’d like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to our PTSA and all of our volunteers this year for partnering with us to provide the very best learning environment for our kids.  Our parents support is second to none!  THANK YOU!

MIDDLE SCHOOL SURVEY FROM THE DISTRICT

What are your thoughts about the Issaquah School District middle-school experience? As we all reflect on the school year that’s just ending, now is a good time for us to gather thoughts and opinions from teachers, students, and parents to help frame future discussions we’re planning about middle schools and how to best serve students in these important transition years between elementary and high school.   Parents: Please take a few minutes to respond to a brief confidential and anonymous survey. And please encourage your students to participate in the confidential, anonymous student survey. The student and parent survey links are also available on our school website http://www.plms.issaquah.wednet.edu

The surveys are open through Sunday, June 22.

PINE LAKE PTSA

Wow, what an amazing year PLMS PTSA had this year!  Thank you to the hard working volunteers that made this year at PLMS such a successful year.  Without the many hours that each of you put into our school, we could never have accomplished all the great things that we did this year.  Here are a few highlights of 2007-08 for Pine Lakes PTSA.

Taking Care of Business was a huge success and we raised more money with our Pass the Hat Fundraiser than previous years.

Entertainment Books were a big hit and we’re looking forward to doing it again!

We gave over $27,000 in Mini Grants to the teachers and school this year!

We honored our outstanding volunteers, advocates and teachers with awards such as:

Golden Acorn

Tami DaVita ** Stacy Smith ** JoAnn Spears ** Suzie Wiley ** Judy Calcote ** Lisa Bialek

Outstanding Advocate

Jeff and Judy Bowlby ** Kristin Ramacciotti ** Meagan Elliot

Outstanding Educators

     Mrs. Sailor **Mary Mendenall

We hosted a week long Staff Appreciation with lunches and goodies all week.

We received numerous Awards for our outstanding achievements in the community

100% Membership ** Standards of Excellence ** Honor Unit

We helped host a wonderful concert and helped raise money for a great charity Loose Change Loosen Chains.

We donated money to various community projects:  Echo Glen, Issaquah School Foundation, Lead of Education Voters, Tiger Mountain and Volunteers for Issaquah Schools.

Wow what a list!  Again, thank you for your support and generosity we could not have done these wonderful things for our school and community with out all of you! It has been a pleasure serving as your President for the past two years. Have a great summer!  Rest, relax and we’ll see you in September for another great year at PLMS.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Taking Care of Business Day is a day to take care of school paperwork, school pictures, get that all important ID card, school gear, and sign up for school communications and PTSA.   Tuesday, August 19th, is 7th and 8th grade day, and Wednesday, August 20th, is 6th Grade Day. (Tentative times for TCBD are 7:00 am to 1:00 pm for 7/8th grades on August 19th, and 7:00 am to 12:00 pm for 6th graders on August 20th.)

Whether you're an old hat at PLMS or an incoming 6th grade parent, WE NEED YOU!!!

We will accommodate your work or family schedule....The more volunteers, the more quickly it will go.  Starbucks coffee and treats go with your shift!  Catch up with folks and see what¹s happened over the summer!

Please let me know if you would like a morning or afternoon shift 6:45-9:45, or 9:45-1:00 on the 19th, or 6:45-9:30 and 9:15- 12:00 on the 20th.

Thanks in advance for helping our school community get ready for a great new year!    If you would like to volunteer for Taking Care of Business Day, please call or e-mail Julie Siefkes @ 391-5362, or jsiefkes@siefkesgroup.com.

STAFF APPRECIATION

Many thanks to all who volunteered their time and fabulous culinary skills for the staff. We were very fortunate to have your assistance and could not have done it without you. Thanks also to Sabina Aghamirzadeh who organized Mexican Day and Debbie Rossman who organized Italian Day.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH CORNER

"We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give" Winston Churchill

Thank you to all the many PLMS families that participated in the Issaquah Meals Program by serving food at Feed the Hungry. It was another successful year and I really appreciate the overwhelming generosity and support from the families.  Look for sign up's at taking care of business day in August.

CHALLENGE DAYS

Have you heard of Challenge Day?  It was featured on Oprah a few years ago.  Last year PCFC had Challenge Day for 100 Skyline kids and 100 Issaquah kids.  It was a life changing day that affected everyone whom attended - adults and youth.  The Friends of Youth are bringing Challenge Day to the plateau for 8th through 12th graders.  It will take place on August 20th, and again on August 21st.  Check out the Challenge Day website for more details www.challengeday.org.  You can register online at www.friendsofyouth.org.  It’s an amazing event. I highly recommend it!!!
